The Medical Informatics Program at UWF has partnered with Practice Fusion to provide hands-on training of their electronic medical record system within courses in the Certificate in Medical Informatics program. Practice Fusion is the first ad sponsored “free” electronic medical record offered in the United States (www.practicefusion.com). They were extremely receptive to the idea of a graduate and undergraduate college class using their EMR as a prototype. This web based program is logically organized such that it requires minimal training to operate and no office technology support. It currently offers: 1. Customizable templates that are used for patient encounters 2. Internal messaging for office staff 3. E-mail reminders to patients for upcoming appointments 4. Scheduling/appointing functionality integrated with the EMR 5. Reports on prescription use and diagnoses that could create a disease registry 6. Ability to scan in xrays and lab work 7. Healthline patient information resource 8. Ability to import patients at no cost 9. Training is free and available as live online training or web based tutorials 10. Immunization records and growth charts Practice Fusion continues to evolve and add programs. Next to be added will be electronic prescribing and a patient portal. |
