Proposals for new specializations or programs in SAHLS are distributed throughout the community to those invested in developing an educated workforce in life/health sciences, to those promoting establishment of industries in the life and health sciences in the region, to our educational partners, and to members of the
SAHLS Advisory Committee.
Examples of recent support and community involvement include:
-
Collaboration with regional and national partners to build
educational programs in occupational safety and health
addressing workforce development needs.
-
Support for the Biomedical/Pharmaceutical track of the Master of Science in Administration was unanimous among those responding to our call for input. This included: the Northwest Florida Life Sciences Council; the Chambers of Commerce of Pensacola and Santa Rosa; Okaloosa Walton College; Pensacola Junior College; Gulf Coast Community College; the school districts of Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties; Florida’s Great Northwest (WIRED Grant recipient); Gulf Power Company; Pegasus Laboratories (pharmaceutical company); and others.
-
The regional health care community has fully endorsed and financially supported every effort by SAHLS to develop nursing programs. They have provided support of both the BSN and MSN. They have provided space for the UWF generic BSN program, and have endorsed creation of a PSC/UWF partnership in nursing. Clearly the health care community, from Pensacola to Destin, is dedicated to providing significant support for development by UWF of educational opportunities in nursing and allied health.
-
Biology has provided input on Pensacola's
Multi-Use Community Maritime Museum project and is looking forward to exploring future opportunities as this project evolves.
Graduate students pursuing research with faculty in Biology have also been invited to use the
facilities of
Florida's Gulfarium in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
