There are multiple reasons we are seeing interest in the Health Informatics field. Healthcare is one of the last industries to automate and digitize. As a result, we are playing catch up and creating educational courses to keep up with the advances in technology and new federal support for health informatics. As a result of recent legislation, such as the HITECH and Affordable Care Acts there is financial support for electronic health records, health information exchange and health informatics workforce enhancement.
A Certificate in Medical Informatics is most helpful if you already have some experience in healthcare. Employers and technology vendors would like to see job candidates that are bilingual in technology and medicine. This implies some prior experience in healthcare or an internship at a hospital or healthcare organization. The other important requirement for job success is good people skills coupled with good problem solving and some experience in project management. The figure below shows this relationship.
This web page was created in May 2012 so we are in the process of adding Health Informatics-related jobs in Northwest Florida, as well as, job recruiters who help to find skilled staff.
