Microbial Food Webs

Fall PCB 6990

A graduate level class to review research literature concerning the trophic interactions between microbial populations, from substrate utilization to biomass transfer to higher trophic levels. The format will be group discussion and presentation of assigned readings. General principles will be targeted that apply across ecosystem boundaries: marine, estuarine, freshwater, soils, and aquifer environments, as well as applied aspects of microbial populations in aquaculture, bioreactor, and in situ bioremediation technologies. Microbiology background helpful, but not required.
