ResNet in Southside
-
Residents in Southside can the access the Internet through ArgoAir, the university's wireless network. To use ArgoAir, your computer must support 802.11b or 802.11g wireless networking. This is typically done with a wireless or Wi-Fi card. In addition, your wireless connection must support 802.1x authentication; most newer computers, particularly those with Windows 7 and Mac OS X have support for 802.1x built-in. Residents with older computers, however, may need to purchase or install additional software to access ArgoAir on campus.
*notice*
Residents should be aware that while on Argo Air, activities may be limited. Extra security measures must be taken on the wireless network so many students will notice that they may be unable to play online games or use video chat while connected to the wireless network.

Servers and routers and not supported or allowed on the residential network. Routers may cause a disruption in the network and introduce unnecessary security risks for other students in the residence hall. For more information please see our Acceptable Usage Policy.
P2P and filesharing
-
P2P (or peer-to-peer) filesharing is a network model in which files are stored on and served by individual home computers. P2P networks provide many different types of content both legal and illegal. For reasons of copyright and bandwidth, most P2P filesharing is prohibited on ResNet including Gnutella (LimeWire, WinMX, BearShare, Morpheus, Acquisition) and Bittorrent (Ares,eDonkey, eMule, Azureus, BitComent).
