To enable the University to comply with the Florida Administrative
Code governing the free course benefit for senior citizens, the following
procedures are required to be followed by all senior citizens
utilizing the free course benefit:
| Are you
a student? Each person participating in this program shall, at the time of initial enrollment, file a Non-Degree application with the Office of the Registrar or online at uwf.edu/admissions. Former students that have not attended within the last three semesters, must re-submit a Non-Degree Student application. |
Who is eligible? U.S. citizens, permanent resident aliens, or legal aliens granted indefinite stay by INS, who are 60 years old or older and who meet the Florida residency requirements for tuition purposes. A Florida "resident for tuition purposes" is a person who has established and maintained legal residency in Florida for the previous twelve-month period. |
What are you eligible for? Course work taken under the Senior Citizen Tuition Fee Waiver is on an audit basis. No academic credit shall be awarded for attendance in classes for which fees are waived. Waiver of fees is NOT authorized for the following kinds of courses: directed studies, practicum's, internships, music and theatre performance, Continuing Education, and other one-on-one course situations such as theses and dissertations. Students attending classes on the Pensacola campus must purchase a Nautilus Card and parking decal. THE FREE COURSE BENEFIT MAY BE USED ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS ONLY. Students may not pre-register for courses for which they plan to use a Senior Citizen Tuition Fee Waiver. The waiver form will not be processed if a senior citizen pre-registers and then submits a Senior Citizen Tuition Fee Waiver form for the pre-registered course(s) after the fact. |
How do I register using a Senior Citizen Tuition
Fee Waiver? Each semester submit a copy of the "Senior Citizen Tuition Fee Waiver and Registration Form". It is the students responsibility to complete and submit the waiver form allowing sufficient time for the form to reach the Office of the Registrar by the registration deadline. Failure to submit waiver forms by the prescribed deadlines will result in the assessment of a $100.00 late registration and/or $100.00 late fee payment fee. |
| How do I find Courses? Students can access the online course search from LightHouse, or ARGUS under the "my info" tab. The online course search lists courses which are offered in a specific semester or term. This service allows students to search for courses in a variety of ways, including by department, instructor, location, days and/or times, and even by title. |
When and where do I submit my tuition fee
waiver and registration form? Submit the tuition fee waiver and registration form to the Office of the Registrar beginning with the first day of Advance Registration through the end of the late registration/drop-add period. If a course(s) requires special permission (excluding closed classes) contact the department for the permission authorization code. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REGISTER THROUGH ANY OTHER REGISTRATION PROCESS. |
When will my registration be processed? Senior Citizen Tuition Fee Waiver forms will be processed beginning the last day of regular registration through the end of the late registration/drop-add period. Registration material submitted prior to this time will be held and processed on the designated day. Students will be notified by e-mail of closed classes. Written permission to enter a closed class will be accepted at this time. |
| How will I know my registration
has been completed? An email will generate when registration is processed and will be sent to the student's current UWF email account. New or readmitted students without a current UWF email account must submit a valid email address on registration form to receive email notification. Class schedules may be retrieved through LightHouse (for new or readmitted students) or ARGUS under the My Info tab in the Personal Student Records Access channel (for currently enrolled students). |
