Ian was born indoors and spent most of his early life there, seated in front of a TV. Occasionally he would leave the safety and comfort of the couch to go on excursions with his boyscout troop, where he inevitably learned the fundamentals of outdoor life. Before he wandered into the Climbing Center in November 2006, the only things he had climbed were ladders and trees, but he was quickly hooked by the challenge climbing posed. He spent so much time during the next 6 months at the rock wall, we eventually just gave him a job. He lives his life by the words of a very wise man: "The goal of life should not be to arrive at the grave with your body in the most pristine condition possible. The goal should be to go sliding, at high speed, into the grave with one hand holding your rip cord and the other gripping a half empty bottle of tequila." - Leonardo Da Vinci, inventor of the parachute, during construction of the Sistine Chapel. |
