Dog Heaven

Our wonderful Caleb died on October 18, 2003. Caleb really was the sweetest dog you could ever hope to meet. He joined our family shortly after we married -- he was our first "ours" dog -- and he loved us and entertained us for more than 11 years. Caleb had a great howl and a singing bark. He loved going out to get the paper with his Daddy in the morning and going out to get the mail with his Mommy in the afternoon. Caleb was a regular on the DoggieCam and we've created a special slideshow in tribute to him there.   Nicknames: Caleb McGaleb, Taleb, T, Mr. T, Sweet T, The Kissing Bandit, Flyboy, Pavarotti.

Our precious little Liebling died on December 5, 2002. She was four months shy of her 17th birthday. Liebling was the true matriarch of our dog family. She had so much attitude -- much more than her dainty little body could contain. She loved her Mommy. She was a true mama's girl, a real princess. Her favorite activity was sitting in her Mommy's lap watching television. We were so proud of her longevity that we sent out a special announcement when she turned 16. We miss our little "Wing-a-wing" so much!

We lost our sweet Schnapps on September 20, 1999, at the age of 15. He was a wonderful dog, a genuine character, and we miss him deeply. He had a fabulous little "wah-wah" bark. He loved chasing tennis balls and sitting in his daddy's lap. He was our shortstop, our alarm clock, our brave little soldier. Over the years he was awarded many titles: the Tip-Top Topdog, the Hip-Hop Hopdog, the Head Honcho Hounddog, the Primary Potentate of Puppydom, the Downright Duke of Dogville, the Kublai Khan of the Canine Clan.

We lost our wonderful Schatza Boo on July 28, 2001. Schatza was 11 years old and had been battling bladder cancer for the previous 14 months. Emily was present at Schatza's birth and loved her "from second one." Schatza was a spirited, friendly dog who loved eating, napping, and going for walks (on which she never failed to show her houndish ways: always following her nose and not staying with the group -- "my little girl scout," Emily called her).

BentleyWe had to put our fine little Bentley to sleep on Sunday, January 6, 2002. Bentley was 14 years old and succumbed to a very sudden illness. Bentley (Schatza's father) was our goodwill ambassador — he never met a stranger. He was always up for anything: a walk, a snack, even taking a nap with his Mama. He often barked for the sheer joy of it. He is also known for inventing the Bentley Boogie, a dance he performed grunting and twisting on his back on a blanket, the object being — well, who knows what the object was, but it always seemed to be more fun if he managed to get his head covered up!

[Tilli] Our sweet little Tilli died after surgery on June 22, 2002. She was a little Australian terrier that we got from a rescue organization for Emily's father, Ed. When he could no longer keep her, she came back to live with us. She was a member of our family for about ten years, but we think she was at least 14. She was a cute, shy but friendly little dog. She always liked to stick close to us when we went for walkies. Nicknames: Tilli Vanilli, Roody Roo, Ragamuffin.
