2002-- Kennedy Space Center Historical Concept Map (C-Map)
Worked to create a C-Map prototype to address the Kennedy Space Center's history and create a cognitive tool for working with the various aspects of its development. By incorporating the existing KSC History Database into the C-Map frame work, the tools will provide all interested parties, including researchers, policy planners, engineers, technical experts, historians, and many others, with a conceptual framework for understanding all aspects of Kennedy Space Center. Further, by applying these tools to the existing Kennedy Space Center Website, Internet users all over the globe can access and understand the depth of the Center, its history, and its personnel.
2002-- Kennedy Space Center Oral History Program, Kennedy Space Center
Prepared a framework for the KSC Oral History Program. Developed a set of materials that represent the proposed mission, focus, policies, procedures, and pertinent forms and documents associated with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Kennedy Space Center Oral History Program. The Kennedy Space Center Oral History Program is dedicated to the recording and preservation of the institutional memory of Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and other locations as deemed appropriate.
2002-- UWF/UCF/NASA Collaborative Internship Program
Created a series of opportunities for future collaboration between Kennedy Space Center, the University of West Florida, and the University of Central Florida. Arranged the framework and human resource management structure for students to work in three areas of the KSC operations. The first is within the KSC Archives where students can complete a variety of archival-management and history-focused projects as well as C-Map development. The second is with Delaware North Park Services where students concentrating in museology (museum studies) can help develop exhibits, interpretive presentations, and other projects. The final area is working with the Webcast studio where students specializing in media and documentary production can develop historic pieces on KSC and program histories for broadcast over the Internet. Building upon the C-Mapping technology from the UWF Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, representatives tentatively explored the future collaboration opportunities with the UCF Institute for Simulation and Training.
2001-- Guantanamo Bay Oral History Project, Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, Cuba
In conjunction with the United States Navy and the U.S. State Department, conducted an in-depth oral history study of forty-three Cuban exiles living on Guantanamo Bay Naval Station and eleven "commuters" who daily walk from communist Cuba to work on the Navy Base. In addition to traditional publications, In collaboration with the UWF Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, materials collected are set into a digital data base C-Map or "concept map" that provides a new approach accessing the materials. This process creates an invaluable research tool by blending traditional oral-history techniques with new technological advances. Further, this process protects the subjects and/or their families from potential persecution by the Castro government. Project funded by the University of West Florida and the United States Navy.
Seaside Oral History Project, Seaside, Florida
In conjunction with the Seaside Institute, conducting an on-going oral-history study of the community of Seaside, Florida about its twenty-year history. Subjects include the founder, promoters, architects, residents, business owners, and visitors. In collaboration with the UWF Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, materials collected will be set into a digital data base or "memory map" that will provide a new approach accessing the materials. As a test case, this process will create an invaluable research tool by blending traditional oral-history techniques with new technological advances.
National Museum of Naval Aviation Oral History Project, Pensacola Naval Air Station
Developed cooperative agreement between University of West Florida and the National Museum of Naval Aviation/Museum Foundation. Project to train oral historians, record the memories and experiences of naval aviators, support personnel, family members, and others associated with the history of the United States Navy and Pensacola Naval Aviation, and develop a comprehensive and accessible oral history collection for future generations.
  Gulf South Public History Association
Working in conjunction with the Public History Program Director at the University of Southwest Louisiana to establish organization for public historians living and working in the Gulf South States. As a component of the Gulf South Historical Association, the organization will help network practitioners and cultivate regional cooperation.
Mineral Management Service, Gulf Coast County and Community Study
Contract study that provides a comprehensive evaluation of seven Florida counties including aspects of economics, politics, education, social interaction, tourism, and environmental conditions. Study also focuses on the port communities of Pensacola and Panama City with an in-depth evaluation of the aforementioned components. Findings to be used for future research and for the evaluation of drilling and mineral use issues by the federal government.
