The study of cognition extends to many disciplines, including psychology, philosophy, computer science, linguistics, neuroscience, and engineering. The Certificate program in Cognitive Psychology is intended to provide a program of study that reflects the interdisciplinary nature of research in cognitive processes. This certificate is appropriate for students in the General Track who are interested in cognitive research and applications to human factors, education, expert systems, or artificial intelligence. In addition, students who are interested in gaining admission to a Ph.D. program in cognition or cognitive science after completing their Master's are encouraged to obtain a Certificate in Cognitive Psychology.
Health is broadly conceptualized as physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. The health psychology specialization at UWF recognizes the interacting roles of body, mind, and spirit in health. The curriculum of the health psychology specialization balances Eastern and Western approaches to health, with an emphasis on the contributions of the field of psychology.
In addition to a solid foundation in the discipline of psychology, a range of interdisciplinary electives are available to students to tailor their educational experience. Internship and thesis opportunities provide practical experience in the applications of health psychology. Faculty in the Psychology Department are actively involved in a number of local, regional, national, and international groups, providing access to a broad, interdisciplinary network of other professionals.
