Tomorrow we will end the 2008/2009 fiscal year. We have achieved many amazing successes this year despite the ever declining economic situation. These successes are because of our talented and dedicated faculty and staff. I know that each of you has been faced with doing more with less, as we were unable to fill more than 120 positions over the last two years and in the year ahead. This hasn't been easy, but I want you to know that I recognize your contributions.
One of UWF's strategic priorities is "investment in people." That priority has been very difficult to attain as we face continual rounds of recurring budget cuts. However, it remains in the forefront of my mind. So, in recognition of your hard work, I have authorized the distribution of a $1,000 non-recurring bonus which will arrive to you via supplemental payroll on or about July 10. The funds will be disbursed from our non-recurring funds in our central carry forward account. I regret that we do not have the funds to give recurring raises, but I hope this bonus will let you know how much you are appreciated and valued by UWF.
To be eligible for the bonus you must be an employee on the payroll from the period March 1, 2009 through June 30, 2009. Part-time employees will receive a pro-rata portion, but OPS employees and adjuncts are not eligible. Because terms of pay must be negotiated with unions, those employees who are covered by United Faculty of Florida (UFF), American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and Police Benevolent Association (PBA) are currently ineligible. However, the funds will be placed into escrow for these covered employees in anticipation of a bargained agreement which would allow this bonus payment.
