You have three types of advisors at UWF. Whether you are a freshman or a transfer student, you should meet all three advisors during your first semester at UWF.
- The University of West Florida Advising Center meets with all Freshman and Sophomores and
focuses on completing the General Education requirements for graduation.
-
Each department assigns an academic advisor that meets with students and focuses on completing the major degree requirements. This may be a faculty member, as in Chemistry, or a departmental advisor. The Biology advisor is Steve Celestial. The name of your advisor can be found on your SASS audit.
- The Pre-Health advisor, Dr. Paul Nash and Dr. Peter Cavnar, is available to meet with all pre-professional students. The advisor and the advisory committee can help students establish timelines for applying to professional schools and preparing for entrance exams. The Pre-Health Committee reviews the student’s completed application, interviews students, and writes a letter of recommendation. You should enlist the advice of the committee a year before you begin your application.
