Our staff will meet with you, conduct a site visit, and provide other appropriate assistance with meeting your accessibility needs.
My office recently hired an employee who is visually impaired. How do I determine what accommodations should be involved?
The ADA Compliance Office provides assistance with workplace accommodations, including education and awareness training. We are also available for consultations to ensure that reasonable accommodations are appropriately identified and provided consistent with University policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We are planning a conference that will be open to a large public audience. Do I need to provide sign language interpreters for participants who are deaf or hard of hearing?
Yes, you may need to provide sign language interpreters. Contact the ADA Compliance Office for assistance with planning accessible events and for information relating to how to access disability resources, including interpreter services.
I have a physical disability. All of the handicapped parking spaces are taken when I come on campus. Do I need to get a parking pass from the Welcome Center?
No. As long as you have an official handicap decal in the window of your car or a qualifying license plate, you can park in any space that is not designated as a reserved or restricted parking area.
Define accessibility
Accessibility refers primarily to physical structures or structural elements that may be unnecessary impediments for people with disabilities. In addition to physical access, the University of West Florida ensures equal educational and employment opportunities as well as access to all of its programs and services.
