Our Vision
To make the University of West Florida an exemplar and regionally recognized leader in the development and practice of Informal Dispute Resolution processes.
Established in 1998, the University of West Florida’s Office of Informal Dispute Resolutions provides confidential and informal assistance to students, faculty and staff interested
in resolving disputes without resorting to formal grievance or complaint processes. The office uses alternative dispute resolution processes, including mediation , to provide confidential
and informal assistance to promote trust, respect and civility within the campus community.
The office is located in the President's Division, is outside of the usual chain of command, and reports directly to the Senior Vice President.
Confidentiality
The issues presented to the office remain in confidence unless authorization for their release is given or in the rare cases where the law requires their release.
The office does not take sides, but considers the concerns and interests of all parties with the goal of achieving a fair resolution to the problem.
The office does not testify or work within formal grievance or complaint process.
Flexibility
The office offers a flexible and efficient alternative to formal grievance processes. The option is flexible because it may give resolution
to a dispute. It also has the potential to help resolve problems more quickly.
