Dr. Bailey Bio
  • Dr. Bailey is the Vice President for Student Affairs. He provides leadership and oversight for the formulation, coordination and implementation of university-wide policies, programs and services related to the personal, cultural and general welfare of the student body outside the classroom. He has been in student affairs for 20 years and has worked at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Bowling Green State University, Millersville University of Pennsylvania and Tulane University before assuming his role at UWF in August 2010.

    Bailey, as most people call him, is active in the student affairs profession having served elected or appointed positions in state, regional and national organizations including the Southern Association of College Student Affairs (SACSA), ACPA and NASPA. He has delivered numerous presentations and is the co-author of book chapters in the Jossey-Bass Publications African American Men in CollegeCampus Crisis Management: A Comprehensive Guide to PlanningPrevention, Response and Recovery and the NASPA Publication Beginning Your Journey: A Guide for New Professionals in Student Affairs. He is skilled in the development of student leadership programs and managing campus crises. As a Hurricane Katrina survivor, Dr. Bailey was the subject of a 2007 documentary produced by WIUP-TV on leadership and crisis. A follow-up documentary was produced in 2008.

    Dr. Bailey has been recognized by the City of Toledo, OH, Outstanding Young Men of America, the International Who’s Who of Professionals, Bowling Green State University and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for his professional accomplishments and contributions to student life and higher education. Most recently, he was recognized by his alma mater as the 2009 Ronald Lunardini Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. Bailey holds a doctorate in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University and is a graduate of the Management Development Program sponsored by the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. His master’s and bachelor’s degrees are from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is originally from Philadelphia, PA, is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and went to the same high school as Bill Cosby, Teller of Penn & Teller, and Larry of the Three Stooges. He proudly boasts that he has never mowed a lawn in his life!

Dr. Hurd Bio
  • Dr. Jim Hurd has been engaged in student affairs work since his sophomore year at North Georgia College and State University when he discovered the joy of being a student union building manager and student leader in the campus activity board. After receiving his BA in English, Jim completed a master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration at Northwestern State University of Louisiana working as a graduate assistant primarily in the student union but with experience in the Dean of Students Office. After graduation Jim joined the student affairs staff at Texas A&M working first as a program adviser and later as program director in the Memorial Student Center. He joined the University of West Florida team in 1986 as director of the University Commons and Student Activities and has now been a full time student affairs professional for over 29 years.

    Jim completed his EdD at UWF in 2000. While continuing to serve as Director of the University Commons Jim was tasked by then Vice President Linda Dye to lead the effort to establish a student affairs graduate preparation program at UWF. He worked with colleagues in the College of Professional Studies as well as the Division of Student Affairs to develop the initial curriculum and recruit the first class of graduate students enrolled in Fall 2003. Jim served as academic advisor until Spring 2009 and program coordinator until Summer 2011. Jim continues to serve as adjunct faculty in the program.

    Jim was named Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs in 2003 and promoted to Associate Vice President in 2004. Jim served as Interim Vice President from July 2009 to August 2010 which provided him the opportunity to work directly with every department within the Division of Student Affairs. Currently serving as Senior Associate Vice President, Jim provides oversight to Intercollegiate Athletics, Housing and Residence Life, Recreation and Sports Services, the University Commons and Student Activities, Counseling and Health Services, and the Educational Research Center for Child Development. Jim represents the Division of Student Affairs on several university level committees including the Facilities Planning Advisory Committee and the Campus Master Plan Taskforce.

Dr. Kennedy Bio
  • Dr. Kennedy is an Assistant Vice President and the Director of Counseling Services.  She provides leadership and oversight to Student Health Services, Wellness Services, Student Disability Resources, and Counseling Services as well as holding the status of Chief Mental Health Officer.  She has been at the University of West Florida since 1999 in a variety of roles including staff psychologist, Director, Student Health and Wellness Education, and Director Health and Counseling. 

    She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology magna cum laude at the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology magna cum laude at George Mason University.  She is a Licensed Psychologist and worked in a variety of settings with children, adults, and families before beginning her work here at UWF.  At UWF she has provided mental health assessments, psychotherapy and EMDR, supervised and trained mental health interns, post-doctoral residents, and practicum students, provided consultation to staff, faculty and students, served on numerous committees, written and managed grants, served on the CARE team, and managed the student health fee.

    She has presented continuing education workshops on such issues as work-life balance and trauma and over 300 workshops to students including stress and time management, relationship workshops, and a myriad of mental health promotion workshops.  Additionally, she has taught as an adjunct both here at UWF and at Niagara University.

    She is passionate about prevention and intentionally endeavors to help create a culture at UWF in which students, staff and faculty strive for physical and mental health. She particularly enjoys her interactions with students. Students occupy a unique status or place in the world, the status of someone who is exploring, learning and integrating new ideas and information into their world.  All of her efforts at UWF culminate in the goal of helping students reach their academic goals, live life well and enjoy it.

Dr. Frye Bio
  • Dr. Brandon Frye began working at the University of West Florida (UWF) in February 2013 and currently serves as Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students within the Division of Student Affairs. In this role he is responsible for the oversight and management of the following units/services: Career Services, Dean of Students Office, Student Case Management Services, Office of Students Rights and Responsibilities, Student Transition Programs and Family Programs. In this role he serves as the Chief Conduct Officer for UWF. Additionally, he serves as Chair of the Campus Care Team and is a Deputy Title IX Coordinator.

    Prior to joining the staff at UWF he served as the Director of Student Development at Auburn University for approximately three years. Additionally, he worked at the University of Georgia for ten years in the following roles: assistant dean of students, acting associate dean of students, coordinator for case management and assessment, and advisor to fraternities.

    He earned his Ph.D. in Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia (UGA) in 2009, his Master of Arts in Student Development from Appalachian State University (ASU) in 2001, and his Bachelor of Science in History/Secondary Education from ASU in 1999. His research interests include staffing practices, supervision, skill development, new professionals, student conduct administration, and assessment practices. He has also worked as a consultant to various educational institutions on the topics of higher education administration, student conduct, and organizational development

    Dr. Frye is a member of the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and NASPA-Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. He also serves on the Board of PIKE University for the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity.

    He is married to Jennifer M. Frye and they have two children.
