The division of student affairs engages in applied research designed to improve one's program or the student experience.
Most of this applied research is conducted by way of commercially available surveys that departments administer on an annual or biennial basis. Examples of surveys include the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement, (BCSE), and the National College Health Assessment.
Principal investigators (PIs) are encouraged to consult with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to determine if the proposed project requires approval from this body before conducting any research.
We recognize that research and assessment take time but the results can validate the work that is done or uncover new areas to focus on. Each month the division of student affairs highlights a research or assessment project.
