Trips are available for current students, faculty and staff of UWF.

Full payment must be made with registration. There is no registration deadline, i.e. as soon as a trip is posted on the web or elsewhere you can register, and registration will continue possibly up to a day before trip departure unless the trip has filled. For more information please email us at outdooradventure@uwf.edu.


Fall Semester Trips

Tubing, Sept. 8

Kick off the semester right with a leisurely float down the Coldwater River. Transportation, tubes, coolers for lunches and guides are provided. Bring sun protection, a bag lunch, a change of clothes and water.

Intro Caving, Sept. 15

Explore the only state park in Florida to offer public cave tours, spotting formations of limestone stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, flowstones, and draperies. As a bonus, we will stop by Falling Water State Park and see a Florida sinkhole. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation and entrance to the park. Pack a lunch for a picnic after the tour.

Intro Canoeing, Sept. 22

Learn basic paddling strokes as you leisurely paddle down the Blackwater River and relax on white sand beaches. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation, canoes, instruction and coolers for your pack lunch.

Bioluminescent Kayaking, Sept. 29-30

Come with Outdoor Adventures to witness the incredible natural phenomenon of the glowing blue waters. Spend an evening kayaking, while experiencing the bioluminescence waters along the way, with the potential bonus of seeing manatees, dolphins, herons and a few rare species of birds. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation, kayaks, instruction and necessary camping equipment.

Fly Fishing, Oct. 6-7

Learn the art of Fly Fishing while enjoying the picturesque mountain settings of Blue Ridge Georgia. Participants will be treated to professional instruction while being guided through an introductory experience in Fly Fishing. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, all necessary gear, camping equipment, as well as food while on camp grounds.

Providence Canyon Hiking (Canyon Climbers Club), Oct. 13-14

Come with OA and experience an introduction to hiking and backcountry camping through the beautiful Providence Canyon. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, camping equipment, food and an experienced guide.

Whitewater Rafting, Oct. 20-21

Join us as we take inflatable rafts down the Chattahoochee River. This is a great way to experience whitewater rafting in a beginner friendly way. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, camping equipment, food and an experienced guide.

Fort Pickens Tour, Oct. 26

Explore the History of Pensacola with Outdoor Adventures by taking a guided tour of Pensacola Beaches and Fort Pickens. Learn about some of the more famous detainees and take part in a live firing of a Revolutionary War Era Canon. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, camping equipment, coolers for food and an experienced guide.

Overnight Canoeing, Oct. 27-28

Try backcountry camping on a sandbar after a paddle down the Blackwater River, relaxing under the night sky with a campfire to roast marshmallows. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation, all necessary gear, food and instruction for this beginner camping trip.

Halloween Bike and Hike, Oct. 31

UWF will host goblins, ghosts, games and spooktacular fun on the family-friendly twilight hike at the boardwalk, followed by a scarier night-hike into the woods using only glow sticks for light! All ages welcome for a night of fun scares. Bring closed-toed shoes and courage. Outdoor Adventures provides guides, instruction and limited bikes are available. Reserve yours today.

Painting the Night Away, Nov. 2

Join Outdoor Adventures to explore your more artistic side. Contribute to the newly christened UWF Bike Shop Art Gallery by creating original pieces of art. The artwork you produce will stay on the walls of the shop for the remainder of the academic year. Outdoor Adventures will provide, art supplies, food and great memories.

Cloudland Canyon Hiking (Canyon Climbers Club), Nov. 3-4

Come with OA and experience an introduction to hiking and backcountry camping through the beautiful Cloudland Canyon. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, camping equipment, food, and an experienced guide.

Hang-Gliding, Nov. 9-11

Fly high on an adventure in the skies above beautiful Lookout Mountain. Learn to fly just off the ground down a small hill, then fly tandem with a professional instructor to 1,800 feet! Outdoor Adventures will be providing transportation and all camping gear.

Intro Climbing, Nov. 17-18

Learn a few new techniques from our instructors or test your climbing skills on a weekend trip to Horse Pens 40, at one of the premier bouldering locations in the country. Outdoor Adventures will provide transportation, climbing shoes, crash pads and all camping gear.

Pcola Rockola, Dec. 2

Come out and experience your first climbing competition in our Recreational division or push your skills in the Open Climber bracket. This year’s competition will feature bouldering. Climbers will compete by gender in Recreational, Intermediate and Open Climber Divisions.

Spring Semester Trips

Snorkeling with Manatees and Big Cat Reserve, Jan. 26-27

Snorkel with the hundreds of manatees that congregate in the beautiful warm spring waters of Crystal River, Florida and viewing the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation. As well as taking a walk on the wild side, with a private tour through one of Florida’s premier Large Cat wildlife sanctuary. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation, all necessary gear, and entrance to the park.

Night Caving, Feb. 16

Women of the Rec Feb. 21

"Women of the Rec" is for women by women.  The idea behind this unique event is to support all participants who identify as female in their fitness goals while promoting an active lifestyle. Women can gain knowledge, support, and confidence while getting instruction with rock climbing, intramural sports, group personal training and fitness classes. The Health Leisure & Sports Recreation Center will inclusively staff female instructors and will be open to female participants. Additionally, several on-campus female support organizations who will be tabling the event to help inform participants of the resources available to them.

Hit the massive slopes of Killington Mountain in snowy Vermont! There is plenty of terrain for all skill levels. Outdoor Adventures provides transportation to Killington VT, resort accommodations, and 5 days of lift tickets. Rentals are available.

Full Moon Hike, Mar. 20

Face the eerie splendor of a guided full moon hike along several miles of trails through UWF woods, and enjoy a rejuvenating cup of apple cider. Dress for the weather, bring water, snacks, and a flashlight. Meet by the canoes in LOT E, behind the gym.

Argo Pantry Disc Golf Classic, Mar. 30

Outdoor Adventures will again be hosting a Double Disc Golf tournament to benefit the Argo Pantry while also showcasing the newly improved UWF Disc Golf Course. The tournament will take place from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019.

To enter, you must register online or in-person as well as provide a donation to the Argo Pantry. The UWF campus group who contributes the most items from the Argo Pantry suggested items list will win a prize.

Argos Go Green - Apr. 22

Sunday, April 22nd
10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Celebrate Earth Day by helping keep UWF beautiful. Outdoor Adventures will be leading a campus cleanup effort around different areas of campus. Focusing on the Edward Ball boardwalk and nature trails around Thompson Bayou, Nature trail across from Pate Rd, and around Universtiy Park.

Trash bags will be provided. Various other supplies will be on hand though limited. You are welcome and encouraged to bring supplies.

Our staging location will be in Parking LOT E, behind the Recreation Center, (Bldg 72), from there groups will break up and target one of three campus locations.

Trip Preparations

All trips require some preparation. Much of the needed information is covered in the trip handouts, which participants receive at the pre-trip meeting. All trips, unless specified otherwise, should plan to meet behind the Rec Center (HLS, Building 72) near the canoes.

Certainly indicated trips have a pre-trip meeting to cover necessary safety information. Participants are required to attend the pre-trip meeting unless receiving permission in advance, otherwise, you will lose your spot, no refund. Unless otherwise noted, meetings are held the Thursday before a trip at 6 pm in the Conference Room.

Refund Policy

Refund requests must be made prior to the refund deadline, which is the seventh day before a trip starts unless otherwise indicated. Trips canceled due to weather or insufficient participation will be refunded. You can register after the refund deadline.

Guest Policy

Members of the HLS Facility (such as current students) are permitted sponsorship of one guest per trip for a fee of $8.00. The guest fee is paid in addition to the normal trip fee at the customer service desk at the time of payment for a trip. The sponsor must accompany their guest on the trip and are responsible for the actions or their guest. This policy is based on the HLS Facility Policies.

What's Included

Trips include transportation, parking and camping fees, all equipment beyond clothing and personal items, food for overnights, and skills instruction. Please contact us with any questions or comments. See you soon!
