Course Offerings

Decide which dates work best for your schedule then register online recreation.uwf.edu or in-person at University of West Florida Aquatic Center (UWF), Building 73, 11000 University Pkwy., Pensacola, Florida. Registration for all aquatic classes is first come, first served. Payment is required at time of registration. When registering online, we strongly suggest that you print a receipt and bring with you on the first day of class.

Parent-Assisted Lessons; 30-Minute Classes 
StarBabies 
(6-18 Mos) and StarTot (18-36 Mos) 

The purpose of this course is to develop in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents in water safety and drowning prevention. This course does not teach children to become accomplished swimmers or survive in the water; it does provide a confidence building, fun, loving experience. One parent or caregiver must be in the water with each child. Swim Diapers required.

 
 

StarShrimps Swim School for Pre-school (Ages 3 - 5) 
Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, this course will develop a high comfort level in the water, a readiness to swim, and for those children who are developmentally ready, teach beginning swim skills. This class approaches teaching swimming through creative, fun activities in the water. Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies* tracking their progression on a personal skill card. Children progress at their own pace in a small group setting.

Sea Horse Swim School for Elementary (Ages 6-8) and Primary (Ages 9-older) 
Students work toward development of the five core swimming competencies* tracking their progression through a Swim School Report card. The color levels are used to divide students into broad ability groups. Children progress at individual rates with the opportunity to learn the core swimming skills and progress to advanced strokes. Learning is self-paced but challenging. 5 year olds at Level Red or above may enroll.

Nautilus Stroke School ™ (Any age that meets swim school green skill prerequisite)
Students refine freestyle and learn stroke technique for backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and more!

Starfish Swim School® for Teen and Adult (Ages 13 - older)
This course is designed to improve comfort and skill in the water, regardless of past swimming experience. Perfect for teens and adults who desire to learn or improve strokes and water skills for fitness or fun.

Private Swim Lessons are available upon request. One-to-one instruction fees are $45 for one 30 minute lesson session or $160 for 2 hours minimum. To maximize the learning process, we recommend four (4) 30 minute instruction sessions with independent practice between instructional sessions. All lessons are pre schedules at registration. Rescheduling is not permitted after the first lesson. Multiple lesson sessions must be completed within one month and one week from start date.
