Appointments

Students who are interested in receiving psychiatric services will need to call (850) 474-2420 or visit the Student Wellness Center in Building 960, suite 200A, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to schedule an appointment with a provider.

Initial Psychiatric Appointment

On your first visit to Psychiatric Services you will be asked to complete paperwork regarding your medical and psychiatric history. Once this paperwork is completed you will see your provider. Paperwork can take up to one hour to complete if you are coming in for the first time.

The initial appointment with the provider will be approximately 50 minutes in length. A complete psychiatric assessment will be done at this time. This will consist of a review of the current problem, psychiatric history, medical history, family medical and psychiatric history, alcohol and drug use history, and social history. Please bring any medications you are currently taking and a list of all previous psychiatric treatment providers with their addresses so that your records can be obtained.

A treatment plan will be developed with you at this initial visit. Successful treatment requires an active treatment approach to obtain the desired outcome.


Follow up Appointments

Follow up visits with your provider will be approximately 15-20 minutes in length. The focus of these visits will primarily be to evaluate your response to the medication that has been prescribed. Therapy is primarily provided by the Counseling & Psychological Services staff and referrals will be made as needed.

Medication Refills

It is very important to keep your appointments so that you do not run out of medications. Medication refills will be done, if deemed necessary, by your treatment provider at your appointment time.

All medication refills, questions, or other concerns can be addressed by calling (850) 474-2420. If after hours, please leave a detailed message. The Psychiatric Services staff will respond to your message within 24 hours during the work week. Weekend and holiday messages will be responded to on the next business day.
