  • CMS - Content Management System, a computer application that supports the creation and modification of digital content using a common user interface and thus usually supporting multiple users working in a collaborative environment.
  • TERMINALFOUR/T4 - The company that created and licenses use of their CMS. Also used to refer to the CMS itself.
  • Sitemanager - This refers to the web browser based interface we use to interact with TERMINALFOUR.
  • Section - Typically corresponds to a webpage, but not always. Sections in T4 can also be navigation groups, redirects, links or container folders.
  • Content Type - Content types in T4 are created to uniformly display varying content across the university web presence. Content types define the structure and style of displaying content.
  • Left_Column - The area below the navigation that displays the same content on every page on each website. This is a special section in T4 that typically lives at the root and should not be renamed.
  • Navigation - The area on the far left (occasionally the far right or top) that displays a hierarchy of your website to a visitor. Navigation directly corresponds to the site structure within the CMS, however only two levels of the hierarchy can be displayed.
  • Navigation Group (nav group) - In the current navigation, webpages are listed underneath navigation groups which are the blue expandable links in the navigation that group similar pages together.
  • Content - Content can be anything that you want to store, display, list, search, query and so on; it is anything that can appear on a webpage.
  • Media Library - Area within the CMS used for image and file hosting, so these items can be pulled into content. This is not to be used for file storage or archives.
  • Publish - The process that collects new and approved content that is ready to be uploaded to the web server.
  • Transfer - The process that uploads live web page files to the web server.
  • Web Server - The location of the live web page files that can be accessed by visitors. Webpage URLs refer to files on the web server only, not the CMS.
  • Siteimprove - The service used to monitor websites for broken links, misspellings and accessibility issues.
  • Google Analytics - The services used to monitor web traffic (visitors) and their behavior on a website.
  • Section Link - Section links are links to pages within the CMS. In contrast to external links, when sections get moved, renamed or deleted, section links automatically adjust and do not break.
  • External Link - External links are links to pages outside of the CMS.
  • Responsive design - The practice of designing website structure and content to offer the same experience no matter the device used to view the website.
  • TinyMCE - The text and content editing software within the CMS.
  • Redirect/short URL - Used for marketing purposes, redirects can be created by Web Services to have short, easily remembered and distributed URLs for pages deep within the site hierarchy.
