Why Honors?

The Kugelman Honors Program offers many benefits to students beyond the enhanced academic experience inherent in the curriculum. Below are just a few of the extra perks of being an Honors student at the University of West Florida.

Personal Attention

Honors students have access to dedicated Honors advisors throughout their undergraduate program. In addition, faculty directors provide support for thesis development and are available for general academic guidance.

Honors Housing

Pace Hall serves as a living-learning community where Honors students live, meet, and socialize. All incoming first year Honors students who live on campus are assigned to Pace Hall, and are welcome to live in Pace Hall beyond their first year. Honors students residing off-campus are allowed access to the building to participate in the many events that occur there.

Leadership Opportunities

There is no shortage of opportunity to become a leader in the Honors program. The Honors Council allows Honors students to guide the social, service, and fundraising activities of the program. Honors students can also serve as Honors Mentors, Core Mentors, and as Honors Resident Assistants (RAs) in Pace Hall.

Priority Registration

Honors students are among the first to register for classes each semester thanks to the privilege of Priority Registration. Being among a small number of undergraduates able to register ahead of their peers means better access to classes and a higher likelihood of getting a seat.

Small Class Sizes

Even compared to the relatively small class sizes that UWF offers, Honors courses are still notably smaller and more intimate. Honors seminars are capped at 15 students and other Honors classes normally range between 8 and 25 students.

Graduate as an Honors Scholar

The Kugelman Honors Program holds its own graduation ceremony and reception for students and their families, typically on the Friday prior to the university's Commencement ceremony. Students graduating from the program receive an Honors stole to wear during Commencement, distinguishing them as Honors scholars.
