General Education Curriculum

The General Education curriculum consists of 36 semester hours shared across the areas of communication, mathematics, social sciences, the humanities, and natural sciences. The curriculum includes three requirements: Florida Common Core, UWF Breadth Requirement, and General Education Electives.

General Education Requirements

I. Florida Common Core (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

Communication
ENC1101: English Composition I* view syllabus

Gordon Rule Writing course; the minimum grade requirement for Gordon Rule courses is C-.

Mathematics
Humanities
Social Sciences
Natural Sciences


II. UWF Breadth Requirement (15 sh)

Choose one course from each of the following categories:

Communication
ENC1102: English Composition II* view syllabus

 Gordon Rule Writing course; the minimum grade requirement for Gordon Rule courses is C-.

Mathematics

Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core Mathematics requirement or:

MAC1114: Trigonometry view syllabus
MAC1140: Precalculus view syllabus
MAC2233: Calculus with Business Applications view syllabus
MAC2312: Calculus II view syllabus

However, the same Math course cannot simultaneously fulfill Florida Common Core and UWF Breadth requirements.

All General Education Math courses fulfill the Gordon Rule Math requirement. The minimum grade requirement for Gordon Rule courses is C-.

General Education Electives (6sh)

Choose one additional course from two of the three areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Choices include any of the courses that fulfill the Florida Common Core or UWF Breadth Requirements.
