Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Equity & Diversity at the University of West Florida is to foster a climate of inclusive excellence in today’s global society. The office encourages greater understanding of self and others for students, faculty, staff and the greater community through academic and cultural programming, as well as support services. The office promotes the principles of awareness, acceptance and respect as a way of life at The University of West Florida.


The University’s efforts to embody Awareness, Acceptance and Respect manifest itself in four action-oriented ways: Get Empowered; Get Educated; Get Involved; and Get Help. These pages contain the specifics of how we are creating a climate that is inclusive for all faculty, staff and students. We know that this work is never-ending and this website will be updated as UWF matures in its efforts.

EDI Awards

The Equity, Diversity & International Awards Ceremony (The EDI's) honors those who have shown commitment in support of diversity, inclusion, and global engagement on the UWF campus and Pensacola community. The EDI's will be Tuesday, April 17th, 2018, at the UWF Conference Center. An international food tasting reception will begin at 11:30 am and the ceremony will follow at noon. Attire is business professional.

Taste of Our World

April is Celebrate Diversity Month, and in light of that, the Office of Equity and Diversity is hosting Taste of Our World on April 20th, 2018, at the Voice of Pensacola Museum. We invite you to experience food from the following regions: Israel, Asia, South America, Greece, India, and France. This event is open and free to community members, faculty, students, and staff members. The celebration will start at 5:30 pm and we hope to see you there.

At the University of West Florida we accept, value and celebrate the unique characteristics of each member of our community as well as the commonalities we share. As an educational institution we strive for inclusive excellence and want all members of our community to feel welcome and supported.


The President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion worked with the Chief Diversity Officer to write the Uinversity’s first Diversity Plan 2014 – 2017. The plan, a living document, identifies five overarching goals that the UWF campus community will work to achieve over the course of the three-year time period.

New! Diversity Workshops

The Office of Equity and Diversity offers a wide variety of diversity workshops for students, faculty and staff. Workshops help create awareness and foster a positive and supportive campus community. There are opportunities for dialogue, engagement, education, cultural enrichment, and addressing key concerns about the campus climate for diversity. Workshop topics include but are not limited to social inequities; gender, sexuality and LGBTQIA identities; microaggressions; power, privilege and oppression; intercultural communication. The workshops are facilitated by staff members in the Office of Equity and Diversity or student diversity council members. To request a workshop, please use the form below.
