International Student Services
International Student Services (ISS) is the central point of contact for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and manages the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) for all international students and scholars in F-1 and J-1 status. International students and scholars must meet federal guidelines that govern their stay in the United States. The Office provides critical support services to students, faculty, and staff members who enter the U.S. and/or desire to travel out of the country.
ISS counsels and advises its students on personal, acculturation, health, funding, employment, visa status, academic and university entry issues each academic year. ISS supports and advocates for students on campus with academic departments and divisions, as well as with local government agencies and US and foreign embassies and consulates abroad. The ISS develops strategies and plans and back-up plans for students to legally accomplish their educational goals in the U.S. and abroad and assists research scholars through its international programs and diversity initiatives.
International Student Services also is responsible for the maintenance of our partnerships located in over 20 countries, as well as the development of new partnerships. These reciprocal partnerships allow both UWF students and partner institution students the opportunity to study abroad. The Office also develops special services, such as employment and tax workshops, cultural programs, orientation and immigration advising.
Included in the mission of the University is to “contribute responsibly and creatively to a complex 21st Century global society.” International Student Services is bolstering this mission by supporting globalization on campus through international programming and by assisting international students who bring so much to the campus, classroom and beyond.
The mission of International Student Services (ISS) at the University of West Florida is to provide advice, counsel, and support services to international students and scholars concerning federal immigration regulations and University policies. ISS is also charged with furthering personal and academic development of the campus community through the advancement of multicultural competency educational programs, sponsoring intercultural experiences, and promoting the development of global leaders through international partnerships.
