Penelope Mitchell, MS

I am a graduate of the UWF Environmental Studies B.S., Graduate GIS certificate, and Environmental Science M.S. programs. I worked for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Ecosystem Restoration Section for 5 years. While with DEP, I used GIS as a valuable tool in performing land use analyses to determine site suitability for various habitat restoration projects. Post DEP, my husband and I circumnavigated the globe, volunteering on projects ranging from rain water harvesting infrastructure in the Andes, organic farming in Argentina, to sheep farming and wetland restoration in New Zealand.  I began working with UWF’s Online GIS Program in summer of 2012.  Initially I worked with curriculum development and the creation of GIS video tutorials.  I now teach Cartographic Skills, Applications in GIS, and the GIS Training Academy for Continuing Education.  I currently reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.  I love working with UWF Online GIS as it is a valuable program that is constantly being reinvented and improved upon by the ever creative and perseverant UWF Online GIS Team!
