Maria Burns holds an MA in English Literature/Creative Writing from the University of West Florida, where she served as an editor for Panhandler Magazine: A Journal for Contemporary Art and Literature. She is a doctoral candidate at the University of Southern Mississippi's Center for Writers. Her academic interests include Contemporary American Fiction and Southern Gothic Fiction.
Maria has taught English Composition for three years, both in face-to-face classes and online. She has published creative non-fiction and short fiction in multiple journals, including The Blackwater Review, Troubadour, Toasted Cheese Literary Journal, and Euphony. She lives in Santa Rosa Beach, and, in addition to teaching composition, she is a commercial-rated pilot and flight instructor.
