Cloud Deployment and Security Architecture - CIS4990/CIS5990

University of West Florida, Department of Computer Science

This is a fully online course for students who want to learn:

Many organizations are moving their applications to public infrastructure cloud computing to reduce costs and gain flexibility. As a result there is a great demand for graduates who know how to use cloud technologies. We will focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a collection of cloud computing resources centered around the Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). You may want to search for these terms on employment web sites such as Monster.com to see what employers are looking for.

A YouTube video (about 57 minutes) explains how companies are using cloud computing and describes some of the services Amazon provides.

The course is an appropriate elective for students in all of the Computer Science Department's majors: Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering and Information Technology. The graduate section is appropriate as an elective for students in most Computer Science related graduate programs. As always, you should check with your advisor to make sure that this is the right course for you at this point in your program.

Please read the syllabus for information about prerequisites and about the conditions for your use of Amazon Web Services.

If you have any questions, please email the instructor, Norman Wilde.
