Athletics Visioning Team Formed
The University of West Florida has formed an Athletics Visioning
Team that will review the current status of athletics within the university
from an educational and financial perspective, including the following:
NCAA divisional alignment, conference affiliation, sports program review,
resources, facilities review, and compliance with any NCAA, State of
Florida, Title IX, Florida Board of Governors or Institutional requirements.
The committee was appointed by UWF President Judy Bense and held its
first meeting Jan. 6. The committee is co-chaired by Joe Ambersley and

Students Volunteer 57,367 Hours
Providing highly-skilled and driven volunteers to communities throughout
the region is just one of the ways UWF is working to make a positive difference
for the people that call Northwest Florida home. Last year, UWF students
volunteered 57,367 hours in local communities through Volunteer UWF!,
the universitys volunteer organization dedicated to meeting the
needs of the community by providing opportunities for civic engagement

Alumnus Appointed to State Board of Accountancy
UWF accounting alumnus and Destin business leader Steve Riggs, '76,
a partner and member of the executive committee of Carr-Riggs-Ingram, one of the largest accounting
firms in the United States, was recently appointed to the Florida State
Board of Accountancy by Gov. Charlie Crist. Riggs will serve a four-year
term in the position. The Board of Accountancy establishes standards
for top accounting firms in the United States. Link: UWF

Students Expand Their Education by Studying Abroad
Enhancing the values of their college degrees, breaking out of their
normal academic routines and traveling to places they never thought
they'd experience, University of West Florida students are taking advantage
of the UWF Study Abroad Program. This spring, 27 students are studying
abroad. From the Netherlands to Japan to Switzerland, UWF students have
stepped out of their comfort zones to expand their education and learn
a little bit more about themselves along the way. Link: UWF

Park Amphitheater Named
The UWF Board of Trustees recognized and honored Randall
K. "Skip" and Martha Ann Hunter Dec. 12, 2008, by formally
naming the Vince Whibbs Sr. Community Maritime Park amphitheater in
their honor as the "Randall K. and Martha A. Hunter Amphitheater."
The Hunters gifted $1 million to the UWF Foundation to support the construction
of the amphitheater and to support the development of the Vice Admiral
John H. Fetterman State of Florida Maritime Museum and Research Center.
