The Department of Music now offers private applied (one-on-one) lessons to the public through the University of West Florida Music Academy. Lessons are open to students of all ages and skill levels, and will receive one hour-long lesson per week for 16 weeks, starting February 4, 2008. Opportunities for students to perform for others in master classes and recitals are available throughout the term.
All of our instructors are current music majors working on their Bachelor of Music degrees, recent graduates, or staff of the Department of Music. Our instructors are also members of the Pensacola Music Teachers Association, Florida State Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association. This allows our students to be eligible to compete with other area students in events such as FSMTA District I Student Day, Concerto Competition, and the annual PMTA Sonata Contest.
Please contact one of our instructors if you have any questions related to their instruments.
Applied lessons are currently available for Piano, Voice, Violin, Bassoon, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, and Trumpet. Students taking applied piano from the UWF Music Academy will have the opportunity to study on one of our 18 new Steinway pianos; a gift of Mrs. Helen Wentworth. If you are interested in an instrument that is not listed, please contact Jonathan Ziegler and we may be able to make arrangements for you.
Visit the UWF Continuing Education website to register for your music lessons while there is space available. After registering, our administrator will contact you to schedule lessons with your applied instructor.
The University of West Florida Music Academy Policy if available here.
If you have any other questions, please contact Music Academy Coordinator Jonathan Ziegler.
