| Inquiry 2: What is the Relationship Between Geography and Biodiversity? |
Shallow mud/seagrass flats, mangrove ponds, and intertidal pools are commonly found
in close association with coral reef communities and are vital to coral reef health.
Due to their proximity to shore and abundance of sea life, these sensitive areas are
often the first to be disturbed by human activity.
In this activity, you will learn how a team of researchers and students
from the University of West Florida (UWF) are investigating fish diversity,
richness, and community structure of shallow mud/seagrass flats, mangrove ponds,
and intertidal pools surrounding southeast Sulawesi, Indonesian coral reefs in
the Wakatobi National Park.

On-line Teaching Resources
| Resource 1: Understanding Bioinformatics -- How Can We Use the Language of Computers to Solve Problems in Biology? |
Scientists use computers in different ways
to learn more about possible solutions to a problem. Some objects that scientists want
to study are stored as sequences of letters and numbers. Other
objects can more easily be studied in digital images. In these resources you'll learn how to take the concepts taught in courses at UWF, FSU and the University of Michigan and apply them to your own teaching objectives. Teaching Resources: |
