A  SEAFARER’S  WORLD  EXHIBIT

Imagine...
LIfe at sea with hardship and adventure part of daily life. Cut off from normal life on shore, sailors lived in cramped conditions and dealt with disease, poor food and minimal pay. Above all, they faced the daily dangers of sea and weather.

A Seafarer’s World Exhibit

  • Learn how as a young state and nation we relied upon sailors for security, trade and food.
  • See how life onboard has changed over time. Peer through openings in the pictorial sides of a ship and compare onboard working conditions from early sailing ships to modern vessels.
  • Listen to sea tales and songs passed down through generations of sailors.
  • Try out your seaman skills at the knot-tying and rigging exhibit.

The exhibition gives children the opportunity to dress up as a sailor and visitors an opportunity to come aboard and experience the cramped living conditions of life at sea.
