Publications and Graphic Design Services
Marketing Communications offers consultation and planning, editorial, design, photography and production services to university clients as appropriate. Our team provides graphic design and editorial services for university publications directed toward internal and external audiences of UWF, including promotional brochures, newsletters, posters, annual reports, postcards and more. Projects are accepted according to priority status and current workload. These services are provided to faculty and staff at a minimal charge. The client is responsible for all printing costs associated with their project.
For assistance with commercial printing specifications and price quotes, contact Connie Marse, director of Publications, at (850) 474-2433 or e-mail cmarse@uwf.edu.
Representatives of printing companies who would like to provide printing services to UWF should also contact Marse.
Creative Strategy and Planning Processes
Proper planning is crucial for printed publications. Marketing Communications staff members meet with clients early in the process to ask questions and plan the creative strategy for each project. Before we begin writing, editing or designing a publication, we ask our clients to consider some basics.
All of these technical questions will help determine the form of the publication and the types of services we can offer to make your publication a success.
As part of the initial planning session, we also do a lot of listening. We especially want to hear about the background of the project, your ideas and your concept of the final piece. Since UWF has many facets and is diverse, we rely on our clients to be the experts in their particular discipline and, in most cases, provide the core information for the publication. We hope that our clients will rely on our expertise to help them produce an appealing and effective publication.
For more information or to begin planning your next publication, contact Connie Marse, director of Publications, at cmarse@uwf.edu.
Editorial Services
Marketing Communications works directly with clients to provide professional editorial service on all projects. Clients must provide text for their publications. Marketing Communications will work with the text to ensure it clearly and effectively communicates the client's goals. All text is edited based on the official University Editorial Style Guide. This guide is available online and in a print version for university faculty and staff. We ask that our clients review this informative guide before submitting text to see how we handle common editorial subjects such as punctuation, capitalization, and abbreviations, as well as university-specific style conventions. We also ask that all text be supplied in an electronic format, and preferably be created in a word processing program. Text may be supplied on disk or via e-mail.
Design Services
The Marketing Communications design staff includes the director of Publications and three full-time graphic designers. In addition to strong print design and layout skills, this diverse, creative group boasts various talents including concept creation, illustration, photo manipulation, print production and Web design.
The designer will work closely with the client throughout the process to make sure that the final piece meets the stated requirements. The designer will present the client with new concepts and initial page proofs; typically, the client is presented with three unique design options. The designer also oversees the project through the printing process.
For more information, contact Connie Marse, director of Publications, at cmarse@uwf.edu.
Photography Services
One full-time professional photographer shoots images for the publications that we create. The photographer works closely with staff designers who assign and direct the shoots to create and capture the right image for the publication. The photographer also maintains a digital library of faculty and staff portraits. We recommend that all new UWF faculty members have their photos made in our studio and all current faculty have their photos updated at least every five years. These digital images are stored on our archives and used in our publications, supplied to news agencies where appropriate and sent to the individual, if desired, for their personal use.
For more information or to set up a photo shoot, contact John Blackie, University Photographer, at (850) 474-2505 or e-mail jblackie@uwf.edu.
Service Fees
Marketing Communications charges fees for some services, such as graphic design and photography. These charges cover costs of materials and, in some instances, labor. The requesting department is expected to pay for printing, mailing and postage, if needed, and will be notified of costs during the production phase of a project so appropriate purchase arrangements can be made. You may request an estimate of charges when you submit a request. To submit a request, e-mail cmarse@uwf.edu.
