Accreditation is a national system of monitoring the quality of the credits you receive from an institution of higher education. You should choose a program offered by an accredited institution, like UWF, to avoid enrolling in courses that do not meet rigorous quality standards or do not transfer to an accredited institution.
The University of West Florida is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s, master’s, specialist, and Doctor of Education degrees. Individuals who wish to contact the Commission on Colleges pertaining to the accreditation status of the University may write the Commission at 1886 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, or call (404) 679-4501.
The NCATE accreditation system is a voluntary peer review process that involves a comprehensive evaluation of the professional education unit (the school, college, department, or other administrative body within the institution) that is primarily responsible for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel. The review is based on the NCATE Unit Standards, a set of research-based national standards developed by all sectors of the teaching profession. Accreditation requires an on-site review of the unit and a review of the individual programs within the unit. UWF's College of Professional Studies has been accredited by NCATE since 1998.
