Elluminate is UWF's online classroom that allows instructors to conduct classes, hold online office hours, and collaborate with students over the Internet. Elluminate incorporates audio, video, and impressive online tools to simulate a traditional class setting.
Elluminate Online Classroom is built specifically for live, multi-media, many-to-many collaboration. Whether there are two students or two hundred, Elluminate enables communication, collaboration, and education that facilitates teaching and learning. The foundation of Elluminate is that each participant, both instructor and student, is using his or her own computer and are not in physical proximity to each other as they are in a traditional classroom - thus, Elluminate does not require use of an Instructional Video Conferencing Classroom, but can be used anywhere. Multiple types of computers can be used with Elluminate, such as PCs and Macs. Elluminate is an intuitive, instructor-led environment that delivers real-time, interactive education and encourages real learning and collaboration.
The tools available in Elluminate provide limitless possibilities for innovative instructors. Application sharing, web tours, and multimedia allow instructors to provide visual demonstrations of classroom topics. Breakout rooms provide the opportunity for students who live far away to work together in small groups. Quizzes and class polling let instructors gauge student's understanding during class. Direct messaging, full duplex audio, and video from webcams make class a two-way conversation. A whiteboard for on-screen annotation and displaying PowerPoint delivers content just like a traditional class.
Elluminate is known for making its online classroom available to all students regardless of their Internet connection. With Elluminate, even students using dial-up Internet are not left behind. This gives instructors the freedom to use the tools that best communicate their subject.
