Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), founded in 1926 by Brazilian president Arthur da Silva Bernardes, is nationally and internationally known for its pursuit of excellence, as demonstrated by its teaching, research, and extension activities. Its mission is to graduate well-prepared and competitive professionals, to research technologies that improve the quality of life for all, and to use the results of that research for the benefit of society. UFV offers undergraduate degrees in 35 fields of study, and those incorporated into this initiative include Agribusiness and Environmental Sciences. UFV is extremely strong in agricultural and economics. In addition, UFV awards both master and doctoral degrees in related fields. Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) was established by the decree 2.373 in December 1954 and opened on June 25th, 1955. Originally, it was formed by the union of the Agricultural College, Law School, School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy and Dentistry. UFC reaches today almost all scientific areas in its campuses, where there are four centers (Science, Agrarian Sciences, Human Sciences and Technology) and five Schools (Law; Education; Economics, Business, Actuarial Science and Accounting; Pharmacy and Nursery; and Medicine). UFC has more than 20,000 students in 6 campuses, 70 undergraduate courses, 93 specialization courses, 45 MS courses and 24 Ph.D. courses. It has also 2 hospitals and 14 libraries within its campuses.
