The Weis School Improvement Grant is a joint effort between ICL and the Escambia County School District.  The project is funded through a SIG grant from the Florida Department of Education.  The main goal of the grant is to raise student achievement levels at Weis Elementary School, a chronically low-achieving, high-poverty school in Pensacola. 
Dr. Kathleen Heubach coordinates the project along with Mrs. Connie Farish, principal at Weis.  The reform efforts are multi-faceted and target the needs of the students. 

Weis/UWF ICL Initiatives:

• Staff Development that is embedded in instruction, including lesson study (with Mrs. Betty Harvey, reading coach)
• Collaboration with Bensley Elementary School, a high-achieving, high-poverty school in Virginia
• Classroom Cooperative – a professional development blog providing an avenue for collaboration
• Infusion of technology into instruction with an iPad lab and collaborative projects in classrooms (with Mr. Robert Heubach, ICL and Mrs. Kim Simpson, resource teacher)
• Project Based Learning (with Dr. John Pecore, UWF)
