Sana Rosa Tutor Mentor
The Santa Rosa Tutor/Mentor program was developed in partnership with the Santa Rosa County School District to provide instructional support for elementary students. Through the program, tutors are hired to work with small groups of children and provide intensive instruction in reading.
Most of the tutors in this program are UWF students majoring in education. The remaining tutors are certified teachers, paraprofessionals or retired teachers. They are all supervised by school district personnel and are trained to provide appropriate instruction that is in alignment with district and state standards.
The program benefits the UWF students by providing additional opportunities to perfect the craft of teaching while at the same time earning a part-time salary. The schools benefit because the tutors provide additional instructional resources that support the school's RTI plan which provides differentiated instruction for all students.
