Several Honors students traveled to Panama in Summer 2008 to study the culture and ecosystem of this Central American nation. During this trip, Honors students snorkled, kayaked between Isla Colon and Isla Careneros, explored a bat cave on the island of Bastimentos, and traveled through colonial Panama and the country's various islands and jungles. For one week, the students lived in Bocas Del Toro (a house literally located on the water!) and worked with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. They also stayed in the mountain town of Boquete, as well as in the heart of Panama City.

The opportunity to attend international seminars like this are one of the many reasons that students choose the University Honors Program at UWF. This trip to Panama, during which Honors students learned about the country's history, environment, people, and wildlife, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that these students will never forget.
