Computer Science Program Objectives
The Computer Science program at UWF is seeking accreditation by the CAC accreditation board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology and is among the most respected accreditation organizations in the United States.
Computer Science Program Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Computer Science program at UWF will be known for their accomplishments in the early stage of their careers and they should:
- Develop computerized solutions to important problems either individually or through interdisciplinary teams within a global and societal context.
- Professionally and ethically, engage in technical or business activity through computer science ability, communication skills, and knowledge.
- Engage in continuing professional growth through post-graduate education, continuing education, or professional activity.
- Contribute to the economic development of the Northwest Florida region and the state of Florida.

Computer Science Student Learning Outcomes
The faculty have adopted the following Student Learning Outcomes for the Computer Science program:
- Apply concepts of computing and mathematics to solve problems.
- Analyze a problem, identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs within realistic constraints.
- Function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
- Recognize professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues, and responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- Analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
- Recognize the need for and demonstrate the ability to engage in continuing professional development.
- Employ current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice.
- Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and Computer Science theory to models and designs of computer based systems demonstrating comprehension of the tradeoffs.
- Apply design and development principles in the construction of software systems of varying complexity.
