Welcome to the University of West Florida and the Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science (HLES). The University of West Florida is a public state university with an enrollment of 12,000+ students. We are located on a 1,600 acre nature preserve in Pensacola, Florida, world famous for its white sand beaches and emerald colored water.
HLES offers undergraduate degrees (Bachelors of Science) in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Physical Education (PE), Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), Sport Management, Hospitality, Recreation, and Resort Management (HRRM), and Community Health Education (CHE). We also have graduate degrees (Masters of Science) in Community Health Education, Physical Education, and Exercise Science, Masters of Science in Administration in Health Care Administration, as well as a Doctorate of Education in Physical Education and Health; and minors in Community Health Promotion, Physical Education Professional Education, and Hospitality, Recreation, and Resort Management.
The HLES department resides in a $19 million Health, Leisure, and Sports facility which provides state-of-the-art laboratories for exercise science, motor development, and athletic training along with a 10,000 square foot fitness room, indoor track, three basketball courts, pedagogy gym and teaching gym, new classrooms and MUCH more. The mission of the Department of Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science is to build a foundation of
health, leisure, and exercise science knowledge and to prepare students with professional skills
and analytical abilities to assume prominent positions in health, leisure, and exercise science
across the state and nation.
