SecureFTP: Installation & Configuration
About SecureFTP
SecureFTP is one of two secure FTP (FTPS) software packages supported by the ITS Help Desk. SecureFTP software is available free of charge from the SecureFTP website.
Note: FileZilla is another free secure FTP software package that is supported by the ITS Help Desk. SecureFTP is a simpler program that is preferred by most users at UWF. However, Filezilla is available for those who need more advanced features (e.g. CIS students).
Follow the steps below to install and configure SecureFTP. After installing and configuring SecureFTP, learn how to Connect and Transfer Files.
Step 1: Install SecureFTP
Download SecureFTP from: http://www.glub.com/products/secureftp/.
Step 2: Configure the Connection
- Start the Program (Start -> Programs -> Secure FTP -> Secure FTP).
- You may be presented with the End-User License Agreement. If so, read it, then click Accept.
- The Open Connection window appears. Click Cancel.
- From the Bookmarks menu, click Add Bookmark.
- On the Connection tab, enter the following info:
- Profile : Type UWF FTP
- Host Name : Type ftp.students.uwf.edu (students) or ftp.facstaff.uwf.edu (employees)
- User Name : Enter your ArgoNet username
- Password : Enter your ArgoNet password
- On the Options tab, enter the following info
- Security Mode : Select Implicit SSL
- Data Encryption : Check the Enabled box
- Clear Command Channel : Leave blank
- Port : Type 990
- Starting Remote Folder : Leave blank
- Starting Local Folder : Leave blank
- Connection Type : Leave blank (Possible exception: If using a home computer connected to a router, you may need to check the Passive box.)
- Proxy : Leave blank
- Click Save.
Congratulations, SecureFTP is now installed and configured!
