Before Your First Session
Blackboard Collaborate is UWF's online classroom for eLearning that allows instructors to conduct classes and hold online office hours over the Internet. Blackboard Collaborate combines on-screen content, audio, video, and a comprehensive set of online tools to simulate a traditional class setting. Blackboard Collaborate sessions take place in real time, with students and instructors working from their own computers.
Blackboard Collaborate provides a full set of online tools. Application sharing, web tours, and multimedia allow instructors to provide visual demonstrations of classroom topics. Breakout rooms provide the opportunity for students who live far away to work together in small groups. Direct messaging, full duplex audio, and video from webcams make class a two-way conversation. A whiteboard for on-screen annotation and displaying PowerPoint delivers content just like a traditional class. Also, Blackboard Collaborate is known for making its online classroom available to all students regardless of their Internet connection. Even students using dial-up Internet are not left behind.
Students must have computer speakers or headphones to use Blackboard Collaborate. A microphone is recommended. Webcams are optional.
