Update Software

Software vendors release periodic updates that contain patches, fixes, and improvements for their programs. These updates help protect your computer against viruses and intruders. To make sure that your copy of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office remains current, UWF recommends using Microsoft Automatic Updates.

Turning on Microsoft Automatic Updates:

1. If Microsoft Update is not already installed on your computer, download it at http://www.update.microsoft.com.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Automatic Updates.
4. Click the Automatic Updates tab.
5. Select a setting. UWF recommends Automatically download recommended updates for my computer and install the:. Then select a daily update time. Keep in mind that your computer must be turned on and connected to the Internet at the scheduled time for updates to be installed.

Important: If you set up Automatic Updates to notify you, or if you forget to leave your computer on, you will see a notification balloon when updates are available. Click the notification balloon to review and install the updates.

Tip: If you're not using Automatic Updates, or to get updates in addition to critical and security updates, visit the Microsoft Update site.
