Practice Safe E-Mail Habits
To protect yourself from unwanted or potentially dangerous email...
- Do not open unsolicited email. Email messages from unknown sources may contain viruses or other programs that may be harmful to your computer.
- Do not open unexpected attachments. Attachments can also contain viruses.
- Do not give out sensitive information such as passwords, credit card numbers, or bank PIN numbers via email.
- Set up a secondary email address and use it on websites that you do not trust and on message boards, newsgroups, and mailing lists. This will prevent your primary email address from becoming too "public," and will greatly reduce the amount of unsolicited email you receive in your primary account. Free email accounts are available through Hotmail or Yahoo and a number of other providers.
