Gulf Coast Digital History Project

The Gulf Coast Digital History Project offers students, scholars, and researchers unique opportunities to explore the maritime history and heritage of the Gulf Coast.

About the Project

The Gulf Coast Digital History Project is an interdisciplinary effort that involves several professions, academic fields, and institutes. The digitization project began in May 2018 at the UWF Archives. The project is led by the UWF Digital Humanities Lab.

The project team includes Dr. Amy Mitchell-Cook, Dr. John Jensen, and Dr. Jamin Wells from the Department of History; Dr. Della Scott-Ireton from the Florida Public Archaeology Network; and Melissa Gonzalez from the UWF John C. Pace Library. The Gulf Coast Digital History Project seeks to strengthen research, teaching, and learning by creating an accessible network of history and heritage resources.

This project is made possible by a National Maritime Heritage Grant from the National Parks Service and the generous support of the University of West Florida, including the Department of History, and The University Archives and West Florida Research Center.
