Every year Fraternity and Sorority members take part in educational programs put on by the Office of Greek Affairs, the University of West Florida, the North-American Interfraternity Conference, and the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values. These educational programs provide our students with skills to enhance their fraternity and sorority life experience, tools to become a better leader, and valuable personal growth and development.
Acropolis is a new member institute put on by the Office of Greek Affairs. This is a one day program for new members from all fraternities and sororities on the University of West Florida's campus. The program addresses topics that concern new members of fraternities and sororities and educates them to better prepare them for Greek life. Some topics covered in the past range from values and ritual to decision making and bystander behavior. New members enjoy getting to know other fraternity and sorority new members while being engaged in educational programs.
Mt. Olympus is a Greek leadership retreat put on by the Office of Greek Affairs. This is a two day over night retreat for chapter presidents and the council executive boards of the Greek organizations at the University of West Florida. This retreat helps the leaders of the Greek community build relationships and enhance their leadership skills. The leaders learn valuable skills to assist them in leading their organizations and councils. Some of the topics covered include values, integrity, diversity, wellness, and risk management. Our fraternity and sorority leaders look forward to this exciting retreat and enjoy breaking down the barriers and developing relationships with the other leaders in the Greek community.
UIFI is a five day institute put on by the North American Interfraternity Conference that brings together fraternity men and sorority women from across North America to create opportunities to explore, define, and enhance their leadership skills, personal awareness, commitment to their fraternity or sorority, and grow to expect values based action from themselves and those they lead. At UIFI, our students are given the skills to improve their own leadership abilities and positively affect their chapter, council, and community. Our Greek students at the University of West Florida have had the opportunity to attend this institute and every year come back inspired to help our Greek community grow.
Voyages is a leadership program students at the University of West Florida can take part in. The goal of Voyages is to create a leadership community of students whose progress through the program will result in the acquisition of leadership skills and personal development. The majority of Voyages students are members of our fraternity and sorority life community. Our students have the opportunity to join this program regardless of holding a leadership position in their chapter or council. Voyages prepares students not only for leadership in the Greek community but also for life in college and after.
The Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) Central Fraternal and National Black Greek Leadership Conference is a conference held annually for fraternity and sorority communities all around the US. University of West Florida’s Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Council all sent members to this year’s conference in February. At these conferences, UWF Greeks have a chance to meet their peers from all over the country. They attend educational programs facilitated by professionals and inspirational speakers from around the nation. Students discuss topics relevant to the fraternity and sorority life community. Our fraternity and sorority members enjoyed going to the 2012 conference in St. Louis and having the opportunity to learn valuable information to bring back to their Greek community at the University of West Florida.
