UWF offers challenging degree programs in music, theatre and art that foster creativity and expression. These programs are uniquely connected to the community by the public exhibitions and performances that are offered, as well as by the venue provided by the Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA). Many residents of the region have enjoyed workshops, exhibitions, musical theatre shows, the Runge Strings and other events at the CFPA. In addition, the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra has rehearsed in the CFPA since 1991.
Funding Priorities:
- Talent and need-based scholarships for music, theatre and art students, enabling UWF to compete for talented students regionally and, in some cases, nationally
- Establish one or more endowed visiting artists and performing arts series that bring accomplished artists to Northwest Florida to offer workshops, lectures, master classes for students and great performances for the campus and community
- Renovation of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts including acoustical and lighting upgrades for the Music Hall and Mainstage Theatre and lighting and wall restoration in the art gallery
Impact of Support…by 2010:
- UWF’s programs in music, theatre and art are viewed as among the finest in the Gulf Coast region, attracting outstanding student and faculty talent.
- The Center for Fine and Performing Arts Music Hall and Mainstage Theatre have undergone extensive renovation to support the needs of UWF and community arts organizations.
- Building on the strength of academic programs and an outstanding facility, partnerships between UWF and the Pensacola Symphony, Pensacola Opera, Pensacola Little Theatre and additional Northwest Florida arts organizations are strengthened.
