Graduate Admission Test Score Waivers

Admission test score waivers apply to applicants who meet the department’s waiver criteria. The graduate admission test requirement will not be waived until the applicant is offered admission.

The graduate admission test score checklist item will remain 'outstanding' and you will continue to receive admission missing documents emails until an admission decision has been made and the department has indicated that they would like the graduate admission test waived.

DepartmentProgramsThe waiver will apply to applicants who meet these criteria:
Legal Studies, Public Admin, and Sports Management Administration, MSA — Acquisition & Contract Management, Leadership in Public Service and Nonprofit Administration, and Public Administration 

Applicants must have an cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Accounting and Finance Accountancy, M.Acc.

This waiver will apply to the following population:

  • UWF BSBA in Accounting with a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
  • Individuals who have passed all four parts of the CPA examination as documented by the National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA).  
  • Individuals who have earned a business related master's degree from an AACSB accredited institute.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) Business Administration, M.B.A.

The requested waiver would extend to all MBA applicants that meet one of the following categories:

  • GPA of at least 3.25 or higher
  • GPA of at least 3.0 and at least three (3) years relevant work experience in an organization (for-profit or non-for-profit) that would normally require an undergraduate degree to obtain or experience at running an entrepreneurial business.
  • GPA of at least 2.75 and at least (8) years of relevant work experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Passed all four parts of the CPA examination as documented by the National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA).
  • Completion of the UWF Graduate Business Foundation Certificate with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

*Professional experience is determined on a case-by-case basis using a resume, and any requested supporting documents. Our admissions committee evaluates an individual's accomplishments, roles, and responsibilities to determine the total number of years of professional experience. Normally, professional experience begins at the point of graduation; however, University of West Florida may consider prior work experience based on type of experience.

Communication Arts Communication Arts, M.A. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in Communications with a GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or have made at least an A in 9 or more credit hours of graduate coursework in our department either as non-degree seeking students or as a student in another graduate program.
Teacher Education and Educational Leadership Curriculum & Instruction, M.Ed.
Educational Leadership, M.Ed. — Educational Leadership Certification
Exceptional Student Education, M.A.
Reading, M.Ed.
Applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution.
Instructional Workforce and Applied Technology Instructional Technology, M.Ed.
Administration, M.S.A. — Human Performance Technology
Applicants must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Mathematics and Statistics Mathematics, M.S. Applicants must have a B.S. or B.A. degree in mathematical sciences with at least a 3.0 GPA.
Nursing Nursing, M.S.N Applicants must have earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a NLN or CCNE accredited nursing program with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale OR a 3.0 (GPA) on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 hours of coursework on the BSN.
Government Political Science, M.A.

Applicants must have an undergraduate cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 or higher in the Political Science, Political Science-Pre Law, or International Studies / Affairs major.

College of Education and Professional Studies, Ed.D. Program Curriculum & Instruction, Ed.D. Applicants must have a masters degree with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Health Sciences and Administration Healthcare Administration M.H.A.

The test requirement may be waived if one of these conditions is met: the applicant has a 3.5 GPA or higher; the applicant has a 3.0 GPA and three years of relevant work experience in a healthcare organization that would normally require an bachelor’s degree; the applicant holds a terminal degree (Ph.D., J.D., Ed.D. etc.) or an advanced professional degree (M.S., M.A., etc.) from an accredited program.

English English, M.A.
-Creative Writing
-Literature

GRE/MAT waiver for students who meet certain conditions. The GRE/MAT requirement may be waived if: the applicant holds an undergraduate degree in English from an accredited university with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher; the applicant has completed a master's or doctoral degree in any humanities or social science field with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher; the applicant holds an undergraduate degree in any humanities field with a GPA of 3.7 or higher; the applicant has an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university in any field, a cumulative GPA or 3.5 or higher, and three or more years of experience as a teacher of English or in a writing-intensive field (journalism, technical writing, etc., to be approved by the department chair).

Earth & Environmental Sciences M.S. in GIS Administration

GAT waiver will apply to the following: all GRADUATE GIS Certificate holders with a Certificate GPA of 3.0 or higher; UNDERGRADUATE GIS Certificate holders with a Certificate GPA of 3.5 or higher; holders of previous MS or MA graduate degrees.
