The Florida Constitution requires that the Florida Legislature pass a balanced budget every year. This has been very difficult over the past few years as governments across our nation dealt with budget shortfalls and economic stagnation. Once again this year, the State of Florida is expected to have less in revenue than it needs to fully fund continuing expenses.
On December 7th, Governor Rick Scott released his proposed budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The Governor's budget provided a starting point for the legislature. The following links detail the Governor's proposed budget.

During the legislative session, the House and Senate passed their versions of the budget. From these two bills, the Conference committee (comprised of members of both houses of the legislature) produced a Conference Report. This report became
House Bill 5001. This bill, combined with the Implementing Bill (
House Bill 5003), were passed by the legislature on March 9, 2012.

The Appropriations Bill and the Implementing Bill were presented to the Governor on April 6, 2012. On April 17th, the Governor provided his transmittal letter which details the items he is vetoing from the existing appropriations bill. To view this document, please click the link below:
