The United States Department of Labor has identified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a key emerging and evolving industry with numerous opportunities as a career path. The University of West Florida's GeoData Center has established a reputation for delivering courses and certificate programs in this field for several years. The GeoData Center is the hub of GIS teaching and GIS Research activity at UWF. In 2006 the University launched an innovative new 100% online program to bring a cutting-edge Geographic Information Science Certificate to students around the country.
